Yeah alright Tasmania January 2016/Mark Seymour/Built To Spill

Moore’s Law in full effect, things have changed out of sight since my last post. Everything is different. I’m just not feeling it as far as writing long newsletters lately. Could be the heat, could be that I’m too busy doing things, could be the PS4. Anyway I have a little tour of Tasmania with my good friends Van Walker and Lucie Thorne coming up. Check out all the dates there on the right. As well as that I am doing some Zoo shows with Mark Seymour in February, and I’m supporting Built To Spill as well. Yeah alright you heard. Built To Spill. It’s gonna be amazing.

Anyway yes – check the Tasmania dates there on the right. I have a bunch with Van and Liz, some by myself and even one with my old buddy Mike Noga which I really can’t wait for.

Here’s some things that have been of interest lately: Awards shows, public grief, the man who put his wife’s head in a block of concrete in Germany (Austria actually), Zero Latency, the new Drones song, Fallout 4.12314580_10154592740672195_9142787197233971168_o

There’s a photo of me in drag with my fellow Dragons at the Tote last year (nostalgia), don’t say I never give you nothing/anything.

Be excellent to each other

BASEMENT DISCS INSTORE THIS FRIDAY IN MELBOURNE

Hey Y’all,

I have a busy end of the week coming up.

Thursday night is the debut show of a new band that I’m in called HOWNOWMER. We’re going to be joined by the amazing Heartbrokers (Jeff Lang, Van & Cal Walker) and The Dead Heir. It’s at the Tote Hotel.

Then Friday during the day I am doing an in-store at the fabulous Basement Discs at 12.45pm. The address is 24 Block Pl, Melbourne VIC 3000 .. phone them on (03) 9654 1110 for more details.

Then I jump on a plane and fly to Brisbane where I am doing a show with Giants of Science at The Crowbar. We’re helping Heads of Charm launch their new EP. Also along for the ride will be the delightfully named Barge With An Antenna On It and the always reliable Tape/Off.

Then we’re doing some Giants of Science recording on Saturday!

Phew.

THE DISHES ARE DONE, DUDE

Wellll the tour is over. It was incredibly real. Thank you so much to everyone who attended, to all the bands who played, to all the sound people and most of all to my amazing band – Marieke Altena, Ben Lawless, Clint Hyndman and Adrian Stoyles, who were aided an abetted by a number of legends on cellos and violins (or is that celli and violi.. sounds like fungus) – Briony Luttrell, Rhiannon Fenn, Bridget Lewis, John Bedggood, Hannah Morrell and Magnus Turner – and one totally amazing walking support network, synth player and The Nicest Person You Will Ever Meet, Seja Vogel. I have to also thank all the people who housed us and bought us drinks. To Corrina and all the staff at Black Bear Lodge and Juniper at The Grand Poobah and just everyone everywhere all the time. I’m a bit emotional.

Now my attention turns back to the regularly scheduled inanity & ennui. And booking festivals and stuff and applying for grants. And thinking about the next album. Stay tuned.

The Tour Starts Tomorrow

Hello There,

Well after all the planning and rehearsal and angst my tour to promote my new album starts tomorrow in Ballarat. The band are sounding really great. It consists of Adrian Stoyles (The Gin Club, The Spoils, Something For Kate) on bass and nonchalance, new found friend and all round enigmatic ingenue Marieke Altena (The Montpelier Community Association Jazz Ensemble) on keys and drummer cum bartender par exellence Clint Hyndman (Something For Kate) on drums. We’ll be joined for the Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne shows by the original Baby Mang himself, Ben Lawless of Hobart town, who’ll be tearing up and down the fretboard like a mang possessed. By babies. There’ll also be string sections in Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart. And some special guests in all cities. Basically it’s gonna be hectic up there. I do hope you can join us.
